Hillsong Kids

The Hillsong Kids team love children and consider it a great honour to be serving the children of our church community.

HILLSONG KIDS UPDATE

The end of January and the industries devoted to taking your cold hard cash in exchange for school supplies are in full swing. Our first son Brooklyn is starting school this year so that means a number of things... an emotional wife, and bank statements with charges for black shoes, uniforms and a rather nifty online store personalised backpack.

This year, your child's education is being researched, studied, tested, measured, ‘homeworked’ and generally invested into in a major way with about 1,500 hours of your kids life devoted to it. We recognise the privilege and advantage that an education can provide.

My job is to do the same with your child's spiritual development. I research, study and invest my time into creating ways to see your child grow spiritually, to see them follow Jesus Christ for the rest of their life. I am 100% committed to teaching kids about Christ — but I only get 70 hours this year, and that’s if you attend Church every week.

Here’s the great news... you probably have about 3,000 hours this year with your kids. That’s a whole lot of time to see them grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18). Myself and our Hillsong Kids team is here for you with prayer, help and resource ideas for every part of your child's journey. So please let us know how we can help, my personal email is: david.wakerley@hillsong.com

God bless,

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?

BIG PICTURE: Made For God
BIG WORD: Isaiah 61:1 (New International Reader's Version)
The Spirit of the Lord and King is on me.
      The Lord has anointed me
to tell the good news to poor people.
He has sent me to comfort
those whose hearts have been broken.
He has sent me to announce freedom
for those who have been captured.
He wants me to set prisoners free
      from their dark prisons.

MEET A FAMILY

Meet the Orr Family from our Hills Campus! Linda, Geoff and their three children are a great part of our Hillsong Kids team.

Hillsong Kids: The Orr FamilyHow long has your family been a part of Hillsong Church?
We fell in love with Hillsong Church from the first moment we walked in the doors in the city when it was Christian Life Centre in 1983. It just happened to be the service where it was announced that Brian and Bobbie were starting a church plant at Baulkham Hills and we decided that we wanted to be part of it.

What does your family love about church?

We love that it is such a great place to bring up your family. Our kids love being part of Youth and Voltage. We love being part of something that is bigger than ourselves and that our lives can make a difference through our friendships and serving.

What’s in store for your family this year?

Having teenagers is so much fun. We are looking forward to continuing to build great relationships with our kids as they negotiate this season in their lives. This year we finish primary school, see our eldest driving and be great survivors of the HSC!

SOMETHING HELPFUL

If your kids are returning to school why not put a note in their lunch box telling them how proud you are of them?

If they are just starting school (like my boy) and can’t read yet, use simple messages, pictures, and photographs to express how special your child is to you. Writing "I (then a drawing of a heart) U" or "(draw an eye) (draw a heart) U" is a good first step. You can show your child this message at home and go over it to let your child know what it says, so when they receive it they will know what it means.
